
The Maastricht University Scholarship 2027 offers an excellent opportunity for talented international students from outside the European Union (EU/EEA) to pursue a fully funded master’s degree in the Netherlands. For the 2027–2028 academic year, Maastricht University will offer 18 full scholarships to highly talented students who have been admitted to participating full-time master’s programmes.
The scholarship covers major study and living expenses, including tuition fees, living costs, health and liability insurance, visa application costs, and pre-academic training. The scholarship is highly competitive, with Maastricht University stating that approximately 2% of applicants receive an award.
The Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support for successful candidates. For a one-year master’s programme, the scholarship covers 13 months, while students enrolled in a two-year programme can receive support for 25 months.

Airfare is not included, and scholarship recipients must accept the accommodation arranged under the programme. Students undertaking a two-year master’s programme are responsible for arranging accommodation for their second year.
Applicants must be nationals of countries outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and Surinam and must meet the requirements for a Dutch visa and residence permit. Candidates must apply for a participating full-time master’s programme at Maastricht University for the 2027–2028 academic year and complete their admission application by 10 December 2026.
Applicants must also meet the specific admission requirements of their chosen master’s programme, must not have previously participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands, and must be 35 years old or younger on 1 September 2027. Applicants are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance, with a minimum GPA equivalent to 7.5 out of 10.
Applicants need to submit a CV, motivation letter, proof of academic excellence, a personal statement explaining their financial need, and a reference letter from an appropriate referee such as a professor, lecturer, or employer.
First, applicants must apply for an eligible master’s programme through Studielink and receive their Maastricht University student ID. They can then complete the scholarship application through the university’s scholarship application form.
For the 2027–2028 intake, scholarship applications are open from 1 October 2026 until 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET. However, applicants must complete their master’s programme application by 10 December 2026 to remain eligible for the scholarship.
